March 26, 2009 -- In the fireplace, preferably

Home again, after nearly three solid years on the road.

And there's Gyorgy again, last seen way back in September of our time, and eleven years ago in narrative time. I've always figured he was Anthon's bigger, stronger cousin.

Here's another minor deviation from history: the automaton was actually stored at Schönbrunn Palace, not at von Kempelen's home, but you'll see why I made that change in next week's page. All for the storytelling.

I can imagine he felt a little like Messier, who loved hunting comets, and got famous for nebulae (which were an annoyance.)

The final irony in Messier's story - his lilst of things that look like comets but aren't has two entries no one has been able to identify. The probably were comets that were moving so slow he thought they were fixed.

It's always so cute/interesting to see Wolf sans wig. It's kind of like Dr. Manhattan's clothes or lack thereof in "Watchmen" making a physical distinction between his public and private persona.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm going for with it. I confess that some of my favorite moments in both Amadeus and the John Adams miniseries were the subtle physical-comedy wig gags. I am easily amused, what can I say.

By the way, I LOVE von Kempelen's expression when he suggests the fireplace.
